What to Bring to Your Tax Appointment

Every taxpayer’s situation is unique, so it is not possible to list every document that may be required for all tax scenarios. When in doubt, we recommend bringing the item in question to your appointment. The list below provides general guidance on documents commonly needed for a scheduled tax appointment.

Prior-Year Tax Returns

If you are a new client, please bring copies of your most recent federal and state income tax returns.

Personal & Dependent Information

Social Security numbers or ITINs and dates of birth for all individuals included on the return

Childcare payment records, including the licensed provider’s name and identification number

Total amount of alimony paid or received, including the ex-spouse’s Social Security number (if applicable)

Income Statements

All W-2, 1098, and 1099 forms

Schedule K-1 forms (if applicable)

Purchase dates and total investment amounts for any stocks or property sold

A list of investment-related expenses

Information on education scholarships or fellowships

Itemized Deductions (Schedule A)

If you plan to itemize deductions, please prepare a spreadsheet or summary list. Itemized deductions may include:

Mortgage interest statements

Real estate and personal property tax records

Casualty or theft loss documentation

Amounts of state and local income tax paid in prior years

Records of cash charitable contributions to religious institutions, schools, and other qualified organizations

Documentation for non-cash charitable donations
